The first round of this years Junior League took place down at Leamington Spa a couple of  weekends ago and our youngsters finished the night in 4th place, the final positions were as follows: Oswestry 204, Evesham 203, Dove Valley 193, Oakengates 184, Rugby 147 and Perry Beeches / SSS 70.

The final weekend for individual events in this years County Championships took place at Market Drayton on 20th March and congratulations go out to Gemma Woolley and Ian Martin who were overall top girl and boy at this years competition - well done to both of you!

There were a further 8 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze medals won along with 92 PB'a and 4 first recorded times set.

The second weekend of the County Championships at Market Drayton saw futher success for our swimmers. There were three more Midland District Qualifying times set, Fay Jackson, Gemma Woolley and Victoria Reilly all bettered the mark for their 1500m frontcrawl - well done girls. The medal haul was similar to a week ago with 14 golds, 7 silver and 10 bronze gained in all. There were also 50 further PB's set.

Samantha Marshall was up at Sharley Park in Derbyshire to compete in this years Rykneld Masters a couple of weekends ago and came away with four gold medals from four events - 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 50m frontcrawl. Well done Sam. Fay Jackson was up in Liverpool on Friday night to compete in the 800m frontcrawl event of this distance meet. Fay finished first equal in her age group in an Midland District Qualifying time of 9:45.29, which was also a PB. Check out the result of this event by clicking on the link below.

Emma Hugh was the sole Oakengates representative at this years Brierley Hill open meet down at Wolverhampton last weekend. Emma competed in two events, coming away with two Midland District Qualifying times and two PB's. Her first event was the 100m breaststroke where she finished 4th in the heats in a MDQ & PB time of 1:21.67. She also finished 4th in the final in a slightly slower time of 1:22.10. Her second event was the 200m breaststroke were she again finished 4th in a MDQ & PB time of 2:58.18. The results from Emmas events can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

Andrea Dodwell, Chris Talbot, Sue Morris, Tracey Woolley, Craig Skinner, John Heuchan, Kieth Roberts and Nick George were across in Shrewsbury last weekend to compete in this years Shrewsbury Masters meet. It was a very long day, with the final session going well into the evening. There were two PB's on the day, Craig for his 50 butterfly and John for his 50 breaststroke. The final round of the Speedo League was held in Rugby at the weekend, where our swimmers finished in a very creditable 4th place. The final result was Northgate 193, Rugby 187, Eckington 178, Oakengates 167, Broadway 161 and Orion 153. All the results from this year and the final league table can be viewed by using the link.

Nine of the younger Oakengates swimmers were in Wrexham on the 20th Nov to take part in this meet. There were some fine swims all round, with Oliver Freeman picking up two firsts and James Boyd getting one fist place. There were also 27 PB's recorded on the day. Independent Schools Association Swimming

Nathaniel Linder-Patton has been getting up to great things in the pool! On the 9th of November he represented Stafford Grammar School in an ISA gala, swimming in three events. He came 1st individually in the 25m freestyle and was part of the U14 boys medley relay and freestyle relay teams, who also came 1st in both their races. On his performance he was picked to represent the Midlands in the ISA National Final, which was held over the long course pool at Coventry on the 20th of November. Again Nataniel swam in three events, he came first in the 50m freestyle in a time of 30.95 (30.30 converted which is a PB) to win the gold medal. He then swam the backstroke leg of the of the medley relay, where the team came 4th and to round it off, swam in the freestyle relay where the team finished in 3rd place to pick up the bronze medal. So well done Nathaniel.

Seven Oakengates swimmers were in Coventry last weekend to compete in this open meet and turned in laods of fine performances to come away with 21 trophies, 20 PB's and 3 First Recorded Times from 32 individual swims. Katie Bevington lead the way with 4 first places, and there were also wins for Hollie George (2), Amy Adams (1) and Ian Martin (1). The first round of this years Speedo League saw our swimmers travel to Bromsgrove. There were some fine swims and 4 PB's were set on the night. The final result was Gloucester City 246, Chase 200, Bromsgrove 171, Oakengates 161, Linslade Crusaders 147 and Leicester Neptune 120. Last Friday night saw the level 11 and above swimmer competing in the 200m individual medley event at Oakengates. On the night there was 1 championship record broken, Tessa Murphy bringing the time for the 14/o age group down to 2:36.59. There were also 15 PB's and 4 first recorded times set.

Swimmers were back at Wellington the following night for the breaststroke, backstroke and 200m frontcrawl events (along with the 50m frontcrawl for 14/o and 25/o.) There were a further 5 championship records broken and 1 equalled on the Saturday. For the girls Tessa Murphy broke the 14/o 50m frontcrawl and 100m backstroke records while Alex Hooper tied the 12 year old 50m backstroke record. For the boys, it was the old timers showing the youngsters the way ahead with Craig Skinner beating the records he set last year in the 50m frontcrawl and 50m backstroke. John Heuchan completed the haul by breaking the 50m breaststroke mark.

All the results are now posted and the record page is up to date. I'll get the PB tables sorted out shortly. Talking of PB's, the end of the club championships marks the end of the count up of PB's for this year and the girls and boys winners are ... ... well, that would be telling, you'll have to wait for presentation night to find out, could be a surprise in there though !!

Gemma Woolley and John Heuchan were down in Wolverhampton on Sunday to take part in the annual masters meet. It was a pretty eventful day with 11 medals won from 11 events, Gemma coming away with 5 gold, 2 silver & 1 PB and John managed 1 silver and 3 bronze. Results were as follows: Gemma - 100m breaststroke 1:34.72 (1st), 50m butterfly 35.56 PB (1st), 100m freestyle 1:09.39 (1st), 50m breaststroke 44.30 (1st), 50m freestyle 32.58 (2nd), 100m individual medley 1:21.93 (1st) and 100m butterfly 1:19.24 (2nd). John 50m butterfly 33.26 (3rd), 50m freestyle 31.59 (3rd), 25m butterfly 15.24 (2nd) and 100m butterfly 1:17.98 (3rd). There were 7 championship records broken - Olivia Phoenix 8/under 25m frontcrawl, Alex Hooper 12 years 50m butterfly & frontcrawl, Zofia Houlston 13 years 50m frontcrawl, Tessa Murphy 16/over 100m frontcrawl & 14/over 100m individual medley and Craig Skinner 25/over 25m butterfly. Yes that's right, Nick Woodbridge came out on top of a field of 70, in the Modern Pentathlon World Championships Youth A category after two days of competition in Albena, Bulgaria. Congratulations Nick ! Four Oakengates swimmer were in Sheffield on the 19th to take part in the annual Teaspoon gala. Amy Adams, Jessica Tonks, Sam Marshall and Oliver Freeman competed in 14 events between them in the 50m pool and turned in some fine performances, running up 7 PB's on the day.
