Four Oakengates swimmers were in Leamington Spa last weekend to compete in this year's Midlands Masters Championships. Rachel Reilly and Dave Clarke were there for the 400 FC on the Friday night, and both swam well to finish in 3rd place. Both times were yearly bests, Rachel's 6:01.20 being just over nine seconds faster than the time she posted at Sheffield in January. Dave's 4:52.98 was ten and a half seconds faster than his time, also set at Sheffield. Rachel and Dave were first up on the Saturday, when they both competed in the 200 FC. Rachel finished an excellent 2nd in a time of 2:51.85 and Dave was 4th in a time of 2:18.66. The next event was the 100 IM where John Heuchan finished 4th in a PB time of 1:19.58. The next event with Oakengates interest was the 50 FC. Sam Marshall had her first swim of the weekend and turned in a good performance to finish 3rd in a Midland District Qualifying time of 29.79. Rachel came home in 6th place in a time of 34.98, which was half a second faster than her time set in January at Sheffield. John finished in 17th place, his time of 30.57 was a PB by just over half a second. Dave was first in action on the Sunday, when he came home in 1st place in the 100 Fly in a time of 1:09.47. Sam then competed in the 100 FC and finished in 3rd place in a time of 1:06.37. There was one more swim each for Sam and Dave, Sam finished 1st in the 50 Fly in a time of 31.30 and Dave was 4th in the 200 IM in a time of 2:34.77, another yearly best.
