The first weekend of the county championships were held up at Market Drayton last weekend and it was a successful two days for our swimmers. Alex Hooper achieved a National Qualifying time for her 100 frontcrawl in a time of 01:02.98. There were also 15 Midland District Qualifying times set - Alex 100 BK, 100 FC, 200 FC & 400 FC, Fay Jackson 100 BK, 200 FC & 400FC, Gemma Rawlings 100 BK, Tessa Murphy 100 BK, 100 FC & 200 FC, Brett Thompson 100 Fly, Daniel Evans 200 BR & 200 BK and Sam Adamson 200 BK. Alex's times at 100 FC and 400 FC were also county records in the 12 year old age group. Not counting the medals given out for the A & B finals, we came away with 23 golds, 12 silver and 7 bronze. There were 77 PB's and 29 first recorded time set. The second weekend weekend of the county championships brought continued success for Oakengates swimmers. There was a further 12 Midland District Qualifying times gained and 7 County Records (CR) broken as follows. Alex Hooper 200 BK (CR) & 800 FC (CR), Claire Bearman 200 BK, Fay Jackson 200 BK (CR), 800 FC & 1500 FC (CR), Gemma Rawlings 200 BK & 1500 FC (CR), Daniel Evans 200 FC (CR) & 200 IM (CR) and Sam Adamson 200 FC & 200 IM. There were 5 more Midland District Qualifying Times set up at Market Drayton last weekend during the lastest county championship galas. Alex Hooper gained her 200 IM in a new county age group record of 2:41.85. Claire Bearman followed up her great 200m backstroke swim from two weeks ago with another fine performance to gain her 200 IM in a time of 3:14.40. Daniel Evans picked up two MDQT's on the day - 200 Fly in 3:09.98 and 400 FC in 5:24.67, both times were county age group records. Sam Adamson also picked up a MDQT for his 400 FC, coming home in 5:23.62. What makes the times set by Claire, Daniel and Sam all the more special is the fact that they were all set on the swimmers first competitive outing at that stroke/distance. Oliver Freeman set a county age group record for his 200 Fly in a time of 3:05.13. There were 12 personal bests and 17 first recorded time set on the day. The final galas for individual events in this years County Championships were held down in Wolverhampton last weekend. There were four further Midland District Qualifying times set - Gemma Rawling, Tessa Murphy and Andrew Little all managed the mark for their 50m frontcrawl. Samantha Marshall's 50m butterfly time was good enough see her into the Midland Long Course Championships in November. There were also three County Records set - Alex Hooper 50m frontcrawl & 50m backstroke in the 12 year age group and Sam's 50m butterfly also bettered the county mark in the 17/o age group. Along with the 68 PB's and 22 FRT's it was another excellent day for our swimmers.
